A Sense of Community

Hurricane Katrina Fundraiser

Foothills Academy students, parents, and staff raised nearly $6200 in relief funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Taco Bell pledged to match all donations, bringing the net effect of our effort to over $12,000. Funds were transferred to the Red Cross for distribution as needed.

This generous response to a community far from our own is what Dr. Senneville reflects upon in his statement from our home page:
“… Foothills Academy students can think on their own, they can exercise leadership, they are sensitive to their surroundings, and they are able to develop rich social relationships. Foothills Academy graduates take these qualities with them in a powerful combination for their future.”

Annual Academic Awards Assembly

Academic achievement is both encouraged and recognized at our yearly Academic Awards Assembly (above image). Students are celebrated for earning a place on the Honor Roll (3.5 GPA) or Director’s List (3.8 GPA). Parents attend the ceremony as well, watching proudly as their student receives recognition for their hard work. As Director Donald Senneville likes to say, “It’s ok to be a good student here at Foothills.”

Dedicated & Committed Faculty

We are fortunate to have a dedicated and happy team of teachers who genuinely enjoys teaching FA students. Retaining quality faculty brings continuity to Foothills Academy and fosters smooth grade transition for our students. While high teacher turnover is not uncommon in some schools, we are proud that several of our faculty members have been with us from our start in 1993.

Crescordia Recipient — Top Environmental Excellence Award

Our accomplishments extend beyond academics. In 2003, Foothills Academy received the Valley Forward Association’s top Environmental Excellence Award, the Crescordia, for “outstanding contributions to the physical environment of Valley communities.”

This prestigious award is recognition of our commitment to energy efficient design, water conservation via xeriscaping, and visual integration of the architecture within the natural landscape.

The physical environment of a campus is integral to its learning environment. It is essential that a campus provide physical spaces conducive to study and reflection. See our Campus Life page for some examples of how this all works.
