Foothills Academy recognizes the importance of science and technology as an integral part of K-12 education. We support these subjects with advanced educational materials including our state-of-the-art Science Lab, a full range of science core and elective subjects, and an annual Science Fair.
Participation is optional for High School students, who will earn extra credit for their work, with the amount of extra credit at the discretion of their science teacher. Participation in the Science Fair is also noted on their official transcript. The top three winners at this level will receive gold, silver, and bronze medallions for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. These fine medallions can be seen, appropriately hanging from a lab ringstand, in the image at right. All entrants receive a certificate of participation, and recognition at the on-campus award ceremony. In the past, the Carefree Kiwanis have presented additional awards in the form of science books, cash prizes, and Science Fair t-shirts.
Participation is mandatory for all Middle School students. There are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each middle school grade level.
Our Science Fair is the first level of a multi-tiered competition leading to an international event, and is open to Foothills students at all grade levels. Judges are drawn from our own science faculty as well as outside sources. Winners at all grade levels will advance to the second tier of competition, which is run by the Carefree Kiwanis.

Winners there can advance to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Any project from physical or life science areas will be considered for admission. Awards include medals, subscriptions, books, cash prizes, and scholarships. In addition, you will earn academic credit in your current science course for participating.
